Prasso Ministry History
Although the Prasso ministry officially started in 1992, it was really born in the living room of Laura Baker’s home many years before. God brought a young woman into Laura’s life who had carried a secret around with her for seventeen years. A secret that caused shame and guilt. Someone once said, “Secrets kill.” This young woman’s secret had killed her joy for seventeen long years. That evening she shared about the sexual abuse that had changed her life. Though unaware at the time, that shared secret also changed the course of Laura’s life.
The burden she felt that evening several years ago in her living room became a passion. “The walking wounded” were everywhere. People suffering from every conceivable hurt. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one…If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” It became clear to Laura that God wanted her to be the friend to those in need and to offer love, encouragement and hope. God laid on her heart to produce a curriculum, based solely on The Bible, that would not only teach the character of God but would also teach practical truth for every day living.
In the fall of 1992 Laura opened the door to the first Prasso class. Twenty women came. In 1997 a men’s class was added. Today, several thousand men and women have been blessed and changed through the Prasso discipleship program. The Prasso material has now been translated into several languages and is being used in a number of countries around the world to bring hope and healing. Long ago Isaiah was sent by the Lord “to preach good news unto the meek; to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.” God continues to do this today through Prasso and The Bible as it is being applied to the lives of men and women. To God be the glory!
