What is Prasso?
Although the Prasso ministry officially started in 1992, it was really born in a living room many years before. God brought a young woman into Laura Baker’s life who had carried a secret around with her for seventeen years. Someone once said that, “secrets kill”, and this young woman’s secret had killed her joy for seventeen long years and left her with a life filled with guilt and shame. In Laura’s living room, the young woman shared her story of sexual abuse and how it had impacted her life. Little did Laura know how her life was about to change as a result of this tiny moment of intervention.
Laura realized that there were wounded people everywhere walking through a painful life without any help. It was during this discovery that she developed a passion for people who were suffering from hurts of every conceivable kind. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one . . . if one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!” It became clear to Laura that God wanted her to be that friend to those in need and to offer love, encouragement and hope to them. God laid it on her heart to produce a curriculum based solely on the Bible that would, not only teach the character of God, but would also teach practical truth for everyday living.
In the fall of 1992 the doors were opened for the first Prasso class with twenty women attending. Later, in 1997, a men’s class was added. Today, there is a youth version for teenagers and several thousand men and women have been touched by, and changed through, the Prasso ministry.
Prasso is a 12-week discipleship program that includes a teaching element, as well as, homework lessons that provide biblical tools for the student to carry throughout each day and throughout their lifetime. It has been translated into 6 different languages and is being used in a number of countries around the world to bring hope and healing. Prasso is for anyone looking for a place to start for a new beginning.
Long ago, the prophet Isaiah was sent by the Lord to “preach good news to the meek; to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” God continues to do this today through Prasso as the Bible is being applied to the lives of men and women.
Prasso can be used for small and large groups, men and women’s groups, discipleship classes, sermon series, counseling classes, bible study groups, marriage counseling, homeschooling, college students, youth groups, or simply one-on-one. The applications are endless, the transformations are eternal.
